How to Secure Your Telegram Account (2FA, Sessions, Scams)

If you manage channels, bots, or paid communities, your Telegram account is critical infrastructure. Lock it down like an email account â because recovery is painful.

1. Turn on Two-Step Verification
Settings â Privacy and Security â Two-Step Verification.
Use a strong unique password and a recovery email you control. Do not reuse passwords from other sites.

2. Audit active sessions
Settings â Devices.
Log out anything you do not recognize. Check this monthly, and immediately after using a new computer.

3. Tighten privacy defaults
  • Phone number: Nobody / My Contacts
  • Groups & Channels: limit who can add you
  • Calls: Contacts or Nobody if you get spam calls
  • Forwarded messages: reduce linkability if you care about privacy

4. Recognize common Telegram scams
  • âSupportâ accounts asking for codes or 2FA passwords
  • Fake giveaways that require seeding crypto or Stars
  • Login codes requested in chat (never share them)
  • Malicious APK / âmod clientsâ
  • Urgent âyour channel will be bannedâ messages
Official Telegram support will not ask for your code or password in DMs.

5. Separate roles when possible
Use a dedicated admin account for high-value channels if your personal account is shared with many people. Limit who has Owner / full admin rights.

6. Device and client hygiene
  • Install Telegram from official stores or telegram.org
  • Keep OS and browser updated
  • Avoid random âpremium unlockâ sites
  • Be careful with browser extensions that read page content

7. If you get compromised
  • Change 2FA password from a trusted device
  • Terminate other sessions
  • Revoke bot tokens if bots were exposed
  • Review admin lists on your channels/groups
  • Warn your community if spam was sent from your account

Monthly 5-minute checklist
  • Sessions reviewed
  • 2FA still on + recovery email working
  • Admin lists sane
  • No unknown bots with powers

Questions about a suspicious message? Describe it (no personal codes) and the community can help assess it.
